The number of 5k races in the Chicagoland area is growing year after year. Depending on who you listen to, there are approximately 250-350 5k races per year in the Chicagoland area. The number of participants per event varies, but every 5k race requires t-shirts. GSH Group has worked both with 5k race organizers and teams/businesses who are participating in a race. Below are some ideas for 5k organizers and for individuals or teams looking to create a special shirt for a 5k race.
5k Race Organizers
- Quality of shirt. Being mindful of your budget is important but don’t order items that are irregulars or seconds. A basic 50/50 cotton/polyester shirt from Jerzees or Gildan is a great option.
- Limit the front of your 5k race shirts to two colors. Remember. If you want your shirts to look the best, you need to create two sets of screens (one for adult sizes and one for youth). Make sure you receive permission for sponsor logos on the back of t-shirts and also get a high quality art file for the logo.
- Lead time. A lot of planning is required when putting together a 5k race. You don’t want to wait until the last minute to order the shirts. Four to six weeks’ lead time is a good rule of thumb.
5k Race Teams/Businesses
- Quality of shirt. Go for something nice! Most people choose a quality moisture-wicking garment or a soft t-shirt when they are creating custom apparel for a team. These shirts are not only a memory of the event but also comfortable enough and stylish enough to be worn again and again.
- Make sure you get your team name on the shirt along with the date or place of the event. If you want to use race logos on custom apparel, be sure to obtain written consent from the race organizers.
- Lead time. It is always best to leave as much time as possible, but we know that isn’t always possible. Two weeks is sufficient lead time to get a small order of 100 pieces or less.
